About the Speaker

Thomas J. Korcok, MPhil, PHD
Associate Professor of Theology, Registrar, Director of Development, Director of Field Education, Vicarage, and Placement
Rev. Dr. Korcok holds an MPhil from the University of Glasgow and a PhD from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where his research focused on classical Lutheran education. He is the author of Lutheran Education: From Wittenberg to the Future (CPH, 2011), a work that continues to shape conversations around Lutheran liberal arts education today.
Several years ago, when Concordia Academy-Wichita was still an idea, Dr. Korcok offered this encouragement regarding the original proposal: “I am encouraged to see the proposal for Concordia Academy. At a time when the educational philosophies and practices of the government are diverging from those of the Church, there is a need for the youth of our Church to be taught according to the sound pedagogical principles of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. With its emphasis on solid Evangelical catechesis and classical educational methods rooted in the historic traditions of the Lutheran Church, Concordia Academy will prepare Christian minds to face the challenges that an increasingly hostile world presents to the Church. Such a school will be attractive not only to Lutheran families but also to families of other confessions who share our commitment to Scripture.”
His academic leadership includes teaching religion at Niagara University and, since 2014, serving as Professor of Theology at Concordia University Chicago, where he recently established the Center for the Advancement of Lutheran Liberal Arts. In addition, he has served as a Reserve Chaplain in the Canadian Forces since 2009.
Rev. Dr. Korcok resides in Niagara-on-the-Lake with his wife, Doreen, and together they are the proud parents of two grown children.
